Attorney Mike Jacobs is a Partner with W. Scott Smith, P.C. He practices law with an emphasis toward criminal and DUI defense. His experience to date includes tenure at Harvey T. Siegel and Associates, the Dekalb County Solicitor’s office, the Fulton County Solicitor’s office and the Cobb County District Attorney’s office.
His educational background includes an undergraduate degree from Catawba College of North Carolina, where he played baseball as a pitcher. After completing his undergraduate studies, Mike moved to Maryland, where he earned his M.B.A. at Loyola College. Finally, Mike finished his education in law at the prestigious Georgia State University Law School, the second highest ranked law school in the State.
Beginning his career with the Dekalb County Solicitor’s office exposed Mike to the intricacies of the legal process surrounding DUI related cases. While working with the State, he began noticing the conviction of too many people due to inadequate defense. Inspired for something greater, Mike considered making the transition to become an Atlanta Criminal Defense Attorney.
Alongside these considerations, the national media began timely coverage of a high profile case. Mike followed this case very carefully and found himself convinced that the defendant on trial was innocent. The verdict came back as guilty. This verdict was the final motivating factor for Mike to join the ranks of Defense Attorneys.
The passion that stirred Mike to become a Defense Attorney is the same passion he brings to each and every case that comes across his desk. He takes the lessons and insights he has gained over his long career to bat for the client. His clients benefit tremendously from his passion and professional expertise.
Mike has the unique ability to take specific details of every client’s case and see how they best can be used to achieve a favorable verdict. He knows that no two clients are the same and uses his creative insight to win cases and build upon his extraordinary accomplishments as a defense attorney.
Creativity, hard work, and consistent solid results are beacons of Mike’s career as a Criminal Defense Attorney. He has won over 80% of his jury trials and has had over 100 cases dismissed outright, including one high profile murder case dismissed in only 21 days. Former clients of Mike have been quoted as saying they felt as if they were “treated like a friend instead of a number.”
Despite his busy law career Mike still finds time to be involved with community and professional organizations. He is a member of Defense of Drinking Drivers (DODD), the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and a prominent member of the National College of DUI defense. He is also a recognized member of the Georgia Supreme Court Bar, as well as the Georgia Court of Appeals Bar and Cobb County Bar Association.
When Mike steps out of his professional shoes, he can be found enjoying time with his wife and son. Among all of his other commitments, Mike uses the experience he gained as a collegiate baseball athlete to coach his son’s little league team.
