• Value $500 or less
• Punished as a misdemeanor

• Up to 12 months in jail
• Up to $1,000 fine
• Probation, community service, or diversion programs often possible (especially for first offense)

Felony shoplifting

Triggered if:

• Value over $500, OR
• Multiple thefts aggregated over time, OR

• 1 to 10 years in prison
